Day 136- A Tricky First

Today I attempted a brain teaser that I had never seen for my "first."

My family and I were visiting with a couple that are good friends of ours.  The guy says that he has a brain teaser kind of thing for us to try to figure out.  I'll share it with you to see if you can figure it out.

You know what a sequence is, right?  For example, a sequence would be  2,4,6, ____?  The correct answer is 8. That is pretty easy, right.   Another sequence would be A, C, E, _____?  The answer would be G; it just skips a letter.

So, here is the sequence- O,T,T,___?  Can you figure it out?  It's pretty hard from there. None of us could figure it out from there.

Here's more- OTTFF___?  Do you know it yet?  None of us did.  Let's add a little.

OTTFFSS___? We still could not get it.  At this point my friend mentioned that this was a very common sequence we were working on and if we thought in that way, perhaps we could get it.  Does that help you any?  It was a struggle for us.

Do you need a bit more?  We did. Here is more of it: OTTFFSSEN___?  When we were given this and told that it was a very common sequence, Laura got it.  The rest of us gave up.  Spoiler alert; I will tell you what it is in the next paragraph.

It is as easy as 1,2,3.  Know it yet?  It is 1,2,3. Look at the letters and they are the first letters of the number system; O-1, T-2, T-3, F-4, F-5, S-6, S-7, E-8 and so on.

I gave up before I figured it out. That's pretty hard if you think of it from a letter perspective only.  When he said it was a very common sequence, Laura got it.  Once you see it, the sequence is very easy.

The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 1: 23-24: 23 but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24 but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

Once you understand the cross, the rest of it is much easier to see.  Before you understand and embrace the cross, life is so confusing and often does not seem to fit together.  We have a hard time trying to find the purpose of life, why we are here, and what the reason for our existence is.  Once the Spirit gives you understanding of God's purpose in Jesus' death and resurrection, it starts coming together much more for you.  There are still unanswered questions and mysteries, but we can get the big picture of what God is doing. So, regardless of what is happening today, try to see it through the lens of the cross.  Ask the Spirit to help us see what He is about doing.  It will have a lot to do with glorifying Jesus and helping others see how wonderful He is.
